About Us

Our members are mostly people with English roots, but we also welcome those from other parts of Britain and elsewhere who share our interest in England to join as full members. We hold social events throughout the year to celebrate our English heritage within the Canadian context.

We believe in supporting Canada’s links with England such as our parliamentary democracy, common law, language, freedoms, business structures, and especially our common allegiance to Her Majesty the Queen, who is our Society’s patron and the Head of State of both the United Kingdom and Canada.

The Society was established in 1894 by Royal Charter. Our Branch in British Columbia originated over a hundred years ago and was re-activated in 1987.

“Today I saw the flag of England,  fluttering from a mast,
It waved in recognition, to the glories of the past,
It beckoned to the future, and seemed to say aloud,
If you should be an Englishman, look up my son, be proud.
Let hope still be your anvil, and courage be your forge
And come what may, let men still say,
Cry “God for Elizabeth, England and St. George”!

The Objectives of The Society are laid down in its Royal Charter and are outlined on our Objectives page.

Information about joining The Society can be found on our ‘Join the Society‘ page.
